About Us
Who We Are:
Dirt Poor Apparel is a blue collar brand created by a southern Kentucky husband/wife duo with a focus on heavy equipment, dirt work and all things hard labor.
The Birth Of Dirt Poor:
In 2023 my husband and I purchased a small, cheap fishing pontoon to take our minds off of the hellacious couple of years we had spent battling infertility. We jokingly named the vessel “Dirt Poor” as a jab to how broke we had become throughout the failed process and a nod to my husbands line of work. Spring 2024, I designed my first “logo” and created a sticker for the boat and surprised my husband with it.
My husband is a simple man, an underground utility foreman, a work obsessed heavy equipment operator and the man of my dreams - but he only had about 3 shirts he would actually wear. I grew tired of seeing him in those same few shirts daily. So one day after shopping for him some new clothes & not finding anything I thought he would like, I took my 10 minutes of design experience from creating the boat sticker and designed a few shirts with various pieces of heavy equipment on them and the name of our boat displayed proudly across the top. I jokingly sent them to him and said “I made you some shirts you may actually wear.” My normally overly critical husband sent back “I love these.” Which I was not expecting, for his grumpy soul doesn’t “love” anything really. Then he says, “We could sell these.”
So then it came to me. And I wrote back “Dirt Poor Apparel” and he said “Let’s do it”.
….and that’s how the brand was born.
Then what?
Then came the hard part - figuring out how to make a T shirt. We knew from the beginning we wanted comfort and a good quality product, even if it meant paying a little more. We spent weeks studying different processes, and then started buying materials from different vendors until we found the right combination to create a durable, comfortable and stylish shirt.
We both work full time jobs, but when we get off of work we clock into Dirt Poor Apparel to bring y’all the best designs and quality that we can. All shirts are designed by myself, and pressed by either me or my husband in the spare room of our home in Southern Kentucky.
We pray this crazy idea takes us far, and that Dirt Poor is worn on the backs of people around the nation some day!
Thanks to all who has supported us and continues to do so! You are appreciated!
